6 Things that may be keeping you from Starting your Creative Business or Sticking with it.

Sometimes as busy and overwhelmed moms, it’s easier to name off all the reasons why we can’t or haven’t pursued our big dreams than it is to take responsibility for them. 

 If you’re anything like me you might’ve found yourself saying things like:
 
“I have enough on my plate already” 
“I can’t even think straight or catch a breath, let alone create a business from scratch”
“I have like no help with my daughter, how am I supposed to get anything done?” 
and of course, the “I’m tired and exhausted” one.

Sure these things all seem very true, but the reality is that we are absolutely the only thing holding ourselves back. And if we want to move forward, we’ve got to be stronger than our perceived set-backs or limitations. 

I know that a few months ago if I would’ve read this post, I would’ve been triggered by it and denied and defended my “excuses/limitations” with my whole heart. 

However, you’ll find (as I have) that the energy you use to defend or create is equally as time consuming, but one is draining and the other uplifts you and brings you closer to your dream. So, it’s up to you to decide where you want to focus your energy.

So, without further ado, let’s go over the 6 things that may be holding you back from starting your creative mom biz and making your big dreams happen.

  1. You have Counter Intentions

    Counter Intentions are thoughts, beliefs or habits (often unconscious) that do not align with what you truly desire.

    For an example, you might desire to travel but subconsciously you’re afraid of what might happen if you do or you worry about how it may affect your finances, etc., etc. and so you prevent yourself from ever really taking that trip because you have so many counter intentions going on in your subconscious. 

    Counter intentions could also be saying you want to start a creative business, but yet never actually doing any of the work it takes to start and maintain a business. 

    To release and move beyond counter-intentions, you must obviously first identify them.

    Think of what you most want to manifest in your life right now, be it a successful business, a family trip or something else entirely. Then write it down a piece of paper.

    When you think of manifesting this desire, what comes up for you? Is it fear? Is it doubt? Do all the reasons why you can’t have it seem to rise to the surface? Write it all down.

    After figuring out what comes up for you, ask yourself “Are these fears, doubts, etc. absolutely true?”, “What’s truly preventing me from manifesting this?” and after that, ask yourself (or God, Angels, etc.) what you need to do to bring your desire into the now. 

    Sometimes it may take a few days or weeks for the answer to come to you, but trust that it will come (because it will). And know that when you’re able to detach yourself from needing to know everything right then and there, things will come to you a lot quicker and more effortlessly. 

  2. You’re not being as Productive as you could be

    Baby nap time is a special and sacred time, for us to get as much shit done as we possibly can! But be honest, are you using this time as well as you can?

    No shame if you’re not but, I encourage you to ask yourself the following questions:

  3. Am I being as productive as I can be?

  4. How can I be even more productive with my time?

  5. What is the most important thing for me to do right now that’s going to bring me closer to my dreams and having success with my business? (PS: Focus on this).

  6. Your mind is in total overload 

    Listen, I get it. Motherhood can be really, really hard (especially on top of everything else we have to juggle) and it’s easy for our minds to go into total overload. 

    But at the end of the day, it’s our responsibility to take or make the time to recuperate and revitalize ourselves and our minds.

    This might mean staying up 15 minutes later than usual to meditate or waking up early to journal or even finding a trustworthy and reliable sitter to watch the little one(s) so you can spend a few hours to yourself.

    And if none of these ideas float your boat or toot your horn, coloring is always an option.

  7. Lack of Clarity

    It is really hard to move forward in a business when you aren’t clear about what you want, how you want to serve, who you want to serve or what you want from the whole experience. 

    Sometimes we think we know what we want but when it comes down to doing the work, we’re MIA. I believe that when we “truly, truly” know what we want and we’re clear about it, doing the work becomes non-negotiable, and we’re committed to doing whatever it takes to make our dreams our reality. 

    If you’re currently struggling with finding crystal clear clarity around your business, I encourage you to (before anything else) figure out who you really want to serve, what you want to help them with and why. When you get clear about this, the work you need to do and the things you need to create and focus on become much clearer. 

  8. It’s not a Priority


If you want to have a business and you want to succeed at it, it has got to be a priority and you have got to do the work every single day (consistently).

If it’s not a priority, ask yourself if it’s what you truly desire and really sit with the question. Because when you really, really desire something, it’s hard to not make it a priority. 

Trust me when I say, it’s hard to ignore that insistent nudge that keeps telling you that you need to bring your dreams and vision to life (no matter what it takes).

  • Your Mindset & Subconscious Beliefs


Baby, if you don’t believe in yourself and your dreams and vision, no one else will and chances are, your results won’t line up like you’d like.

Now changing your mindset and beliefs is not something that will happen overnight. It takes time and repetition to reach and reprogram your subconscious. 

A few ways you can begin to shift your mindset and start rewiring your brain are:

  • Practicing Gratitude

    Practicing gratitude helps to take you out of the scarcity mindset and will allow you to feel better by shifting your focus on all that you do have. 

    Plus, when you cultivate an attitude of gratitude, more things to be thankful for just start pouring into your life and miracles start to happen.

  • Meditation

    Meditation is such a powerful tool for so many reasons and doing it daily has an extensive list of benefits, including an improved mindset.

    I also encourage you to listen to the meditation while falling asleep for the most beneficial experience.

  • Choosing to shift your thoughts over and over again

    Whenever you catch yourself falling into self-doubt, negativity, what have you, choose to shift your thoughts and change your perspective of the situation again and again.

    Sure, this isn’t easy and it’ll take time but the more that you do it, the easier and more natural it will become and the less stressed you’ll be.
